November 2007 – RugMark UK announces an important new staff addition for RugMark International. Ned Daly will serve as the Director of RugMark International and will oversee the governance of the RugMark International network, facilitate independent audits of national programmess, strengthen standards and systems, and coordinate the work of RugMark's six national offices.
Ned comes to RugMark International with significant experience overseeing the governance of the independent certification organization, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Most recently, Ned served as Chief Operating Officer of FSC US and his responsibilities included the development and implementation of standards and policies, staff oversight, engagement with FSC International, stakeholder relations, fundraising and relations with the international network. Prior to joining FSC, Ned held senior-level operational positions at the Consumers' Choice Council, Resource Conservation Alliance and Greenpeace USA.
As Director of RugMark International, Ned will also lead the organization's development of a possible expanded standard. The new standard would go beyond RugMark's existing certification of no illegal child labour and fair wages for adults, to include broader concerns around working conditions and improvements in environmental performance. Ned's role will also involve acting as RugMark's liaison to international bodies, such as the ISEAL Alliance.
"Ned's in-depth experience in the certification arena will prove invaluable to the entire RugMark network as we enter our next phase of development and expansion." said Samantha Towle, Director of RugMark UK.
