Sulo Shah is the owner of Formation Carpets in Kathmandu Nepal, and former President of RugMark Nepal Foundation. From the outset, she wanted to offer a decent place of work for her largely female workforce, and a salary and benefits package that would allow them to have a decent living.

Her hard work and dedication to ethical production practices has now been recognized by the Global Compact – she has won the prize for the best reporting organization in Nepal.

The facilities provided at her factory site include a children’s crèche and workers canteen. In addition Sulo set up a separate charity, Hotse Hainse, to administer a pension fund and healthcare for the workers. Workers also receive a monthly contribution towards their children’s education.
