RugMark UK has launched the 2009 Design-a-Rug competition and we are pleased to announce that the UK's leading contemporary interiors event, 100% Design, is sponsoring the event and will be exhibiting the winners at Earls Court in September. WovenGround.com the specialist rug retailer is sponsoring the competition prizes, which will include a trip to Kathmandu to see the first prize winner's rug being made.

We are also fortunate to have amongst our judges this year the acclaimed rug Designer Deirdre Dyson and Ian Wallace MD of Forte Cloth, the commercial rug and carpet design studio, emphasising the importance of combining design talent with commercial aptitude when it comes to designing a winning rug.

In response to requests from Lecturers, a commercial brief has been introduced for the 2009 competition in the form of a mood board. Entitled, 'The Beat of the East,' it reflects an actual brief for a leading UK Retailer and promises to inspire some exotic entries.

For those wanting to use the competition as part of their teaching materials educational material is also downloadable in the form of a video clip, notes on how rugs are made, design tips, plus background information on RugMark.

All entries must be submitted by June 1st 2009... so now is the time for inspiration!
