Ila Puri Ila Puri

My name is Ila Puri and I am 23 years old. I am from Sinamangal in Kathmandu. My father died five years ago and now I live with my mother, two younger sisters and brother. My sisters and brother are studying in college and school.

I have been working at this day care centre for six years. My normal day starts at 5am when I prepare breakfast and eat beaten rice, noodles, fruit and milk with my family. At 8.30 I take the bus to work and classes start at 9.45am and finish at 4. I take the children out for games and sometimes to play in the park.

Our Day Care Centre covers a cluster of 17 factories, and can take up to 105 children aged between 2 to 6 years. There are usually about 95 children here each day.

RugMark has given me this opportunity to work with children - it has a very positive impact on my life and gives me a lot of good experiences. Many rug children are not able to go to school; they always have to work, but RugMark removes those found working in difficult conditions and gives them an opportunity for a new life. This RugMark sponsored day care centre means that rug weavers can work freely whilst their children are being given love, safety and education.

If the children could not come here, they would have to stay with their mothers in the factories – roaming around and sleeping on the factory floor.
